"One" is not necessarily the loneliest number that you'll ever do, to misquote the old Three Dog Night song. In fact, if you're a savvy single traveler,
going it alone can be an exciting and fulfilling experience. And thanks to a new travel trend, you no longer have to feel like an awkward third wheel or
break the bank on single supplements when exploring by yourself.
Here are some ideas from Hideaways staff based in part on our own solo travel experiences.
CRUISES
River cruising is a hot ticket for solo travelers, and many lines—like A-RosaTHC,Uniworld, and AmaWaterways—are offering waived single supplements on dozens of select cruises
through 2015 (including popular Christmas Market itineraries) and into 2016. Look for a line with an open-dining policy so you can sit wherever and with
whomever you like.
Ocean-going cruise lines also are welcoming solo travelers with open arms and reduced supplements. Crystal Cruises is hugely popular with those sailing alone—singles make up to 25 percent
of its guests on some sailings—in part because of offering special singles' parties and gentleman hosts (and even hostesses). Silversea Cruises welcomes its solo travelers aboard with a special champagne reception, and
most voyages of more than ten days have gentleman hosts on board.
