There must be hundreds of good New York City hideaways, and we've just scratched the surface in our search for them. So until our next foray into the city, here are a few of our favorite, most recent discoveries.
Casablanca Hotel GE
One-half block from Times Square, this property is reminiscent of Bogart's Morocco, with mosaic tile flooring, striking North African artwork, potted palms, and conversation areas complete with rattan seating. The comfy mezzanine lounge, called Rick's Café, featureswhat elsea piano player on Friday evenings. We enjoyed Rick's help-yourself snack and espresso bar, open 24 hours a day. Some nice architectural details include latticework trim at the windows and hallway ceiling lights of Murano glass in art deco style. Deluxe rooms offer a king-size bed, handsome wood trim, and just enough space to move around. Bathrooms with pedestal sinks are nicely finisheed in green and gray tile with dark-green trim. Amenities include bathrobes, CD player, TV, and data port. Members receive preferred rates, starting at $195.
