In a New York State of Mind |

When you live in small-town New Hampshire and most of your "business" travels take you to idyllic destinations around the world, it's actually a rush to visit a big city--and fewer are bigger or better than New York. This past winter, as Billy Joel so aptly sang it, we were in a New York state of mind, and off we went for a long weekend, determined to enjoy as much of the city as time permitted.
Driving south, we knew we were racing a snowstorm, but didn't realize the city would be buried in 15 inches of the fluffy stuff during our stay. Luckily, it only started as we made our way down Manhattan Island itself. I don't mind driving in the city, but dealing with a car in Manhattan is a pain and an expensive proposition. Fortunately, the mid-town Hotel Giraffe, where we would be staying our second and third nights, has a good guest-parking rate, so--by agreement--we dumped our car there and grabbed a taxi toward our first evening's stay at Tribeca's relatively new Greenwich Hotel.May 2010
