A major delight for those of us living on the east coast of the U.S. is the fact that Bermuda is just a quick hour-and-a-half flight from Boston or New York--but worlds away in terms of lifestyle and pace. My family and I stayed at Hamilton's Rosedon Hotel and immersed ourselves in its warmth and cordiality by cozying up in one of a handful of rooms in the main guest house, built in 1906. Our second-floor room had wonderful high ceilings, a monster of a bathroom, and hurricane-shuttered windows that opened to the breezes. Most of the Rosedon's 47 rooms are tucked behind the main home in a lovely gardened pool setting. I'd suggest a room on the second level by the pool or in the main house, where we enjoyed descending the wide balustraded staircase each morning to have breakfast in the sitting room. Breakfast also can be brought to your room by a white-uniformed butler, or enjoyed on the wide front veranda. I found one of the Rosedon's greatest assets to be its personable staff; we felt like family after just a few days.
