As You Like It: Scuba Diving |

My husband, Steve, is an avid scuba diver. Every time we head somewhere tropical—the Keys, the Dominican Republic, Mexico's Riviera Maya—he lugs along fins, mask, snorkel, and wetsuit. I, on the other hand, suffer from claustrophobia and break out in cold sweats just thinking about donning all that gear and heading 30, 50, even 100 feet below the surface.
I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll spend the rest of my life on top of the water—paddling around with mask and flippers—while he dives below the surface and enjoys the camaraderie of dive buddies while exploring caves, walls, and wrecks.
If unrealistic fear is not an obstacle, there's no greater thrill (so I'm told) than coming face to face with creatures of the sea. After all, why look at the fascinating world of ocean life through a glass wall when you can literally immerse yourself in a natural aquarium of underwater activity? Here are some tempting regions of the world where the diving (and snorkeling!) is superb, along with our suggested hideaways from which to enjoy your scuba excursions. To book any exciting dive vacation, contact Hideaways Travel Services at 877-843-4433 (+1-603-430-4433 internationally).
