Spreading Our Wings Over the Nile |

We had been interested in a trip to Egypt for a long time, studying various tour company brochures over the years, even making a comparison chart. When Hideaways offered what we thought was the best trip with INTRAV—called Wings Over the Nile—we signed up right away. INTRAV is one of the very few tour groups that stays for a few days at the Mena House right next to the pyramids at Giza. We could actually see the pyramids from our balcony. And the hotel, once an old hunting lodge, was absolutely spectacular.
Also, INTRAV is the only company using the Oberoi Philae to sail down the Nile for four days. This small, 116-passenger ship has been voted "Best on the Nile" for several years and is the only ship that has a private balcony for each cabin. We had #215 on the middle deck, which we especially liked for its western view going north toward Cairo. We?d sit on our balcony with a glass of wine enjoying the sunset, hearing the soft "swish" of the waves as we moved along and the sounds of Ramadan from the shore. One evening, there was a party on board where we all dressed up in galabiyas (long Egyptian caftans) and had great fun dancing.March 2007
