I didn't have a chance to visit all of our latest Jamaica Great
Escapes—four hip hostelries associated with the eclectic Island
Outpost group—but we checked out one, The Caves, in
Negril.
With just 10 cottages on a lush, jungle-like piece of coastline, it's
perfect for a laid-back, barefoot escape. This little gem takes its name from
the caves that have been etched into the volcanic walls along the shore. In
fact, two of the caves are romantic playpens—in one, there's a
table-for-two where private dinners are served; in the other, the "bath
cave," is an oversized tub for private, twosome bathing. The manager told
us both are in constant demand.
We toured the grounds, checking out the oceanfront saltwater pool, hot tub,
sauna, spa, dining areas, and bars, but got only a peek at one of the
rustic-but-cozy-looking cottages as its bright Caribbean colors were being
refreshed.
