Traveler's Journal: Finding the Real Hawaii on Oahu's North Shore |

Hawaii is Honolulu. Honolulu is Waikiki Beach. Ergo: Hawaii is Waikiki Beach. Unfortunately, for far too many visitors to the Hawaiian Islands, this is their view of reality. They wouldn't know the real Oahu if they were standing on it. Sadder still than this wacky logic may be the current evolution of Waikiki Beach itself, which now more resembles the Vegas Strip, with packs of tourists and parasite hucksters roaming up and down 24/7.
Standing vigil above it all, god-like Diamond Head seems to be brooding over what's happened to his paradise below. Oh, but if Diamond Head could just do an about-face to the North Coast of Oahu, his vista would be a lot more pleasing.
