On the mountain
The central plaza at Big Sky's base area is home to the seven-story
Shoshone Condo-hotel, the original three-story Huntley
Lodge, and the luxurious new ten-story condo-hotel, Summit
Lodge. All are just a short walk from skiing, restaurants, and shops.
The Shoshone's 94 one-bedroom condos are spacious for two and
adequate for four, if you don't mind close quarters. You could even squeeze in
another guest or two if you book a unit with a loft. Our condo was comfortable
and nicely decorated. The living area, with a queen hideaway bed, incorporated
an L-shaped kitchen, dining area, and three-quarter bath. A gas fireplace added
a warm touch. The bedroom, with queen-sized bed, was spacious; the bath was
ordinary but adequate.
The Shoshone's public areas—cozy lounges and an atmospheric
bar—sport a Western decor. Hotel services and facilities include
concierge and room service, gift shops, a fitness area with whirlpool connected
to a heated outdoor pool, laundry facilities, and central ski storage. Rates
start at $201/day (2000); members save 5%.
