It surpassed our high expecatations. The staff was nicer and even more accommodating than we had hoped! The quality of Hideaways' description of the property is: Accurate Lapsed5.0 Guest Rating- Stayed at this property between August 05, 2007 and August 09, 2007- Rating added January 07, 2008Comments:Four nights here were as restorative as a week anywhere else. Our fellow guests at Guana (and also those at Kamalame Cay) were far more interesting than anywhere else we have traveled (and we have lots of miles under our belts). It's a shame, though, that more of Guana's visitors don't venture past the admittedly beautiful beach to discover what's "beneath the surface," like we did. I got some spectacular underwater photos. We had a bottle of champagne as our Hideaways perk; Jason, the GM, even intuited that Veuve Cliquot is my favorite. This was my second trip to Guana. Every year I go somewhere alone as an "advance scout," and if it's spectacular at that destination, we save up in order to go back as a family. So this year's trip to Guana was a truly genuine endorsement. An incredible retreat from the rest of the world. The quality of Hideaways' description of the property is: AccurateDoes this member recommend the property? There is a new manager and needed energy, making this trip entirely different and even better than the first. The quality of Hideaways' description of the property is: AccurateDoes this member recommend the property? Bland - veddy British.....*They are Atkins-savvy and made special desserts, etc. Location, setting and beach were spectacular. Great beach bar and changing room. Total silence and relaxation. Hiking was fun, hard, and the views worth the effort. For the price should have hair dryer in room w/o asking, only 2 towels, no robes. Lunch was available at the beach but you had to ask and you felt like you were imposing. *While management tolerates children some of the guests we met were militant about their unwillingness to be annoyed in the least. This is really not a place for kids. (We understand kids allowed only in the "off" season?) While I appreciate the natural setting and unspoiled ambiance I did find the maintenance of the grounds surrounding the cottage and "lodge" to be a bit shabby. It was neglected (my husband says it's natural"). I don't like grass a foot tall growing out of the path to the room, piles of dried leaves on my tiny terrace, etc.The quality of Hideaways' description of the property is: OverstatedDoes this member recommend the property? The staff was very friendly and conscious of your desire to dine separately from others or with the group. Having lunch brought down to the beach upon request was nice, as was the barbeque on the beach. There could have been more variety in the menu as it seemed repetitive over a week's time. We will return in the future--probably with family or friends. The quality of Hideaways' description of the property is: AccurateDoes this member recommend the property? We recommend Guana Island only to those who want a complete getaway, i.e. quiet, rest, isolation, beauty. Guana Island is not for the gregarious types or those who need to be entertained. Those who enjoy studying unusual flora and fauna will find it interesting. It was the perfect solution for us.Does this member recommend the property? The first two are the managers and the latter is the head of maintenance. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them. They just wanted to make our stay memorable. We had a wonderful cottage with a beautiful patio and view. The food was excellent and of an interesting variety. Extra snacks were available if you were hungry. The meals were served in a beautiful setting and were the social highlight of the day. Dinner is by candlelight with red and white wine available. There is a cocktail hour from 7-8 pm where hors d'oeuvres are served and everyone mingles prior to dinner at 8 pm. Unfortunately there was construction going on while we were there which spoiled the tranquility somewhat and as it was by the main beach, it made the beach area noisy and less private. I also think their claim of 7 lovely beaches is over-emphasized. Only one beach, the main one, is long and white, and sandy. The others are very small and a couple aDoes this member recommend the property? The accommodations are set high upon the hillside of Guana Island, a tropical paradise where the club is the only facility. The rooms are large, airy, and immaculate. The staff is superb, your desires are their commands. If you wan a deserted beach or island, one of the two boats owned by the club, is willing to whisk you there. The staff will warn you before you go to use caution and/or sunscreen to prevent burning delicate parts of your body. The staff will also accomodate youif you desire to have a private lunch or dinner for two overlooking the gorgeous beach set below the club's main building. All meals are sumptuous, the only shortfall was the non-availability of lobsters during our stay. If you go, be sure to take plenty of sunscreen, a couple of good books, and your favorite person, and be prepared for a wonderful visit...Does this member recommend the property? If you love a day at a secluded beach snorkeling in Coral Gardens with incredible fish, and hiking challenging trails amidst gorgeous flora and fauna, a truly friendly staff and gourmet food and wine in a spectacular setting, then Guana Island is paradise. When you leave, a group of your new friends will wave goodbye and watch as you toss your farewell hibiscus into the water. We happened to be on the island when the owners and their families and guests were there. We were treated like family and extended their gracious hospitality. Cocktails and dinner were truly an entertaining occasion.Does this member recommend the property? This island was by far the best we have seen so far. The meals were wonderful. Each day the chef prepared something different. The beach is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. I would recommend that anyone looking for privacy and relaxation, go to this islands. We will certainly return.Does this member recommend the property? Yes
