Hideaways' Review
On a lush West Indies isle known for its tasty spices—nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves grow wild along the roadside here—this delectable boutique resort, set among rolling hills at water's edge, is the perfect accompaniment. Even its famous hotelier/creator, Peter de Savary, has an epicurean-sounding flair to his name, and has ensured that his beachfront hideaway is appealing in every way. The resort's 21 one-bedroom suites and two- and three-bedroom villas are awash in white stucco and punctuated with fruit-bowl punches of color: orange, lime, cantaloupe, raspberry, and lemon. Each suite or villa has a fully equipped modern kitchen with eat-in breakfast bar, plus a separate sitting room with contemporary furnishings and colorful artwork. Bedrooms offer comfy king-size beds with crisp linens, and bathrooms have unique, adobe-walled walk-in showers that carry the rain-forest feeling indoors.
Outside, the tropical foliage tumbles lushly downhill to meet Mount Cinnamon's two-mile stretch of powder-white Grand Anse Beach, where you can play to your heart's content with water sports galore: game fishing for marlin and tuna, snorkeling and diving the island's reef formations, and boating to nearby islands. Closer to home, the soul-soothing Moi Spa at Mount Cinnamon draws on traditional West Indian remedies, including organic and herbal treatments—try the sugar nutmeg body scrub topped with warm ginger spice moisturizer—that wrap you in sensual pleasures. Dining at stylish Verandah restaurant is yet another sensory delight, with signature dishes that combine seasonal local seafood like snapper and swordfish with native spices, fruits, and vegetables. You might make an evening of it, and move out to the terrace to watch the twinkling lights of St. Georges flicker on in the distance. |
