Hideaways' Review
There's nothing more welcoming and refined after a full day of museum touring and shopping in Notting Hill than relaxing by the fire with a cheerful glass of champagne and a selection of delicate canapés. This early evening ritual in The Cranley's beautifully appointed living-room-cum-lobby sets the stage for a very English, home-away-from-home stay. You'll appreciate the impeccable service, invisible and prudent housekeeping, and properly British accommodations of this tranquil refuge in the heart of vibrant Kensington and Chelsea.
Built in 1869, The Cranley is a classic Victorian townhouse (actually three homes joined into one) that embodies London's proficiency at championing the past while embracing the future: Hand-stitched Irish linens, antique furnishings, and period oil paintings fuse with state-of-the-art technology such as broadband access and flat-screen TVs to make you feel pampered and plugged-in. Bedrooms, some with handmade Beaudesert four-poster beds, are decorated in a Regency palette of Chinese blue, mustard, plum, and stone. Spacious marble bathrooms offer his-and-hers vanities, thick fluffy towels, and Penhaligon toiletries (a British company that's as old as the hotel itself).
When your thoughts turn to heading out on the town, the Victoria and Albert Museum, The Natural History Museum, and the Science Museum in Exhibition Road are all nearby, as are a tantalizing array of theaters, restaurants, shops, parks, and the Underground. The most delightful aspect, however, is returning to The Cranley and being absolutely and unashamedly indulged by the sophisticated yet unobtrusive staff that makes it their business to ensure every aspect of your stay is exceptional. |
