What's on Your Travel "Bucket List?"
President Mike Thiel
Have you ever noticed that when people come into money, one of the first things they say they plan to do is travel? You hear it all the time on those TV interviews of lottery winners. The same holds true for when folks anticipate coming into a pile of that other most precious of assets, time-in other words, the golden years of retirement.
Hot Town, Summer in the City

Maybe the back of your neck won't get dirty and gritty, but summer in New York City can be hot-in all the right ways. Yes, it might be sticky and muggy. But it's also a "hot and happening" place for music festivals like the New York Philharmonics' free "Concerts in the Parks" series, theater events like "Shakespeare in the Park" (that's Central Park), fun sidewalk art sales and gallery events, Summer Restaurant Week (in July), and just about every other type of summer festival you can imagine.

Hitting the Pacific Coast Highway
Hideaways Member Mark Kelley, Zionsville, IN
We may not have been traveling with Charley through Steinbeck country, but we were traveling with our 14-year-old twins, Scott and Jennifer, as the family headed off to Northern California this past spring. We wanted to spend spring break finishing up our "city tour" of the past year, which included D.C., New York, Chicago, and now San Francisco. To round out our Northern California trip, we planned to drive a section of Pacific Coast Highway from Monterey to San Francisco-about 110 miles of scenic beauty that the kids had not yet experienced.

By Hideaways Member Ed Carpenter, Lakeville, CT
Whenever it's time to start planning another trip with Hideaways, my wife, Jo, and I like to pull out the map and look for some intriguing place we've never been before. This time our inspiration came from an issue of Scientific American magazine, which featured a South American cruise through the Strait of Magellan and around Cape Horn. Eureka!
The Taste of Travel: The Delicious Sequel

Sometimes you travel to experience a new culture, sometimes to delve into a destination's history. Other times you just want to relax and immerse yourself in the beauty of your surroundings. But no matter what motivates you to travel, you have to eat-and that, too, is an important part of the journey.
