Comments:
Makanda was quiet, secluded, off the beaten path, yet close enough to attractions to make interesting day trips.

Comments:
The pool + restaurant were very nice - and nice to have at the same location. Everything was lovely with the exception of our excursions. The mongrove boat tour was interesting, but there were 2 extra staff (the boat driver and his ???) that never stopped talking thru the whole tour. It was most distracting. In the walking tour at Manuel Antonia Beach + Forest, we were put with two Argentinian women, so the Spanish-speaking guide spoke mostly to them. We eventually migrated to another English-speaking group for some of the tour. Our guide seemed very knowledgeable, but we didn't speak enough spanish to fully appreciate him. Both tours were overpriced.

Comments:
A beautiful hotel with excellent service and an excellent restaurant. The rooms were not air-conditioned. I could have gotten an air conditioned room for much less money.

Our eighteen year old daughter and her girlfriend (highschool seniors) loved a sunset horseback ride on the beach.

Comments:
Makanda By the Sea is an incredible property. We stayed in Villa 7 and the view was spectacular. The villa was expansive, well furnished and contained every amenity you could want. Every morning at approximately 5:45 a.m. we were awakened by the chattering of beautiful tropical birds and two species of monkeys. The small informal poolside restaurant was excellent. Although, helmets should be provided when dining, the monkeys in the trees above love to play and whack you with fruit, a great and fun experience. I have stayed in accommodations around the world and Makanda By the Sea in Costa Rica was my favorite!!

You could easily stay a week at Makanda because it has its own kitchen and is readily accessible to Quepos.

Comments:
Makanda By the Sea is absolutely beautiful!!! We stayed in #5 and it was perfect. We had a great view of the ocean. It seemed as though the villa was dropped out of the sky and into the jungle, they have kept it as natural as they possibly could. The room was very clean and the maid had to take a lot of time each day to arrange all the flowers on our towels, I'm sure. The staff could not have been friendlier. We had fresh furit, bread, coffee and juice at our door each morning when we woke. The pool area is gorgeous!! They have a restaurant on the side of the pool. At night it's all lit up with little lights, and is very romantic. The lunches and dinners were excellent and the service was superb. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing, beautiful place to stay. We will definitely go back.
