Hideaways' Review |
The humble pineapple, long a symbol of hospitality, adorns almost every decorative aspect of this historic haven on the golden sands of Jamaica's northern shore. And with good reason! Round Hill originally was designed to extend a warm welcome to a handful of private cottage owners, among them such notable members of society as Grace Kelly, Noel Coward, and Jackie Kennedy. Today, with an impeccable sense of style born from decades of good grooming, this tropical resort still reflects the needs and desires of its original discriminating owners: privacy, comfort, five-star service, and a touch of glamour, all served up in a convivial club-like atmosphere.
Guests to this little slice of balmy paradise can choose two ways to stay. First, there's The Pineapple House with 36 oceanfront rooms recently renovated by Ralph Lauren (himself a cottage owner). Each sun-filled room has cool white-stone floors and romantic four-poster beds, plus sweeping sea views and access to the double-infinity-edge pool. Then there are the 27 individually owned and uniquely decorated villas and cottages sequestered away in a lush hillside setting, each with a selection of villa suites or more expansive two- to six-bedroom suites. These can be taken individually or as a complete home—especially nice for a large family or group of friends. Each suite has its own entrance and an expansive living area with spectacular views of Round Hill Bay; many have a private garden pool as well.
Round Hill has a time-honored tradition of being family friendly, and children are treated to their own high-energy Kids' Club. That leaves grownups time to enjoy their own brand of fun: ocean-side spa treatments, a round of golf, deep-sea fishing, or tropical cocktails by the pool. But the real magic begins each evening as soft lights flicker on like fireflies and everyone strolls down to the seaside terrace for cocktails, conversation, and gourmet cuisine, all served with a seductive Caribbean sunset. |
