In search of serenity, seclusion, and stunning scenery? This is one hotel that's certainly worth a pilgrimage. Tucked away on Bali's west coast, not far from the iconic island temple of Tanah Lot, Alila Villas Soori is a world away from the hue and cry of Bali's busy tourist spots. In this secluded retreat, all you hear is the hush of waves on the black-sand beach, the rustle of the surrounding emerald-green rice fields, and the calls of unknown birds.
Outside and inside seem to flow into each other, thanks to the enlightened design of this eco-friendly haven, which blends streamlined modern architecture with the lush environment—and, of course, with luxurious comfort. Inner courtyards and expansive glass doors maximize breezes and light. Each of the spacious, elegant villas is refreshed by its own rippling pool and revels in fabulous views of Mount Batukaru to the east and the sea to the west (opt for an elevated ocean-view villa for enhanced privacy over the beach-view villas). When it comes to amenities, let's start with your villa's personal "host," who mists lavender spray onto the pillows at night, arranges private meals on your terrace, and strives to make your stay as perfect as possible. You're definitely away from it all at Alila Villas Soori—an evening out is something of a trek—but with the breakfast extravaganzas and all-day tea service, the intriguing Indonesian specialties and familiar Western dishes at Cotta and Ombak, you have little reason to leave. If by any chance you tire of lolling by your pool, melting into bliss in the spa, or trying your hand at creating Balinese dishes in the resort's cooking classes, one of the leisure concierges is ready and willing to organize excursions to the markets and craft centers in Kerambitan, a journey through the coffee works and terraced cocoa plantations of Jatiluwih, or a tour of various local temples to pay homage to the gods.
