The Sea of Cortés with
Un-Cruise Adventures
By Hideaways President Mike Thiel

The Un-Cruise Philosophy
My explorations with Un-Cruise Adventures truly were unrushed, uncrowded, and unbelievable.
-
Small-Ship Sailing
Secluded coves and out-of-the-way ports that larger ships can't reach are all
part of the Un-Cruise experience.
-
Dry Landings
Whether you're out snorkeling, beachcombing, or otherwise exploring, Un-Cruise
gets you to shore--and usually dry--in big, comfortable inflatables or decked
catamarans.
-
A Family Cruise
Megan and "JP" wrap up their safety tour of the ship with their clutch of very
well-behaved youngsters.
-
A Shipboard Lesson
The ship's guides were excellent at providing instruction in snorkeling,
kayaking, and paddle boarding.
-
On the Water
We had some company, on every manner of vessel, while out looking for and
snorkeling with whale sharks.
-
All Hands on Deck
We'd gather at the bow with long lenses, looking for whales, dolphins, and
mobula rays, also known as flying rays for their fondness for breaching the
water's surface.
-
A Playful Escort
Dolphins followed the ship pretty much everywhere, playing in the bow wave and
wake.
-
A Different Desert Perspective
At one stop, we were met by a local family with their mules and horses for a
group ride through the cactus-filled hills and along a pebbly beach.
-
Sea Birds Galore
The Sea of Cortés abounds with sea birds--as well as interesting rock
formations.
-
Campfire Stories & S'Mores
Nothing beats a beach bonfire, some singing and dancing by the crew, and a
batch of yummy s'mores!
-
Whale Shark!
Hands down, the high point of my trip was swimming with huge whale sharks,
which, though quite docile, looked as though they might suck me into their
cavernous mouths.
-
Excuse Me!
Sea lion pups might actually nip at you, but more out of playfulness than
anything else--and boy, are they speedy and graceful swimmers!
-
Learning for Fun
Kids will learn a lot about nature and sea life with Un-Cruise Adventures. Here
are a few youngsters from my trip examining micro-stuff caught in a fine mesh
trawl set out from the ship.
-
Day's End
It's the end of another serene, spectacular day on the Sea of Cortés.
