Everything Under the Sun
The U.S. Virgin Islands consists of three main islands: St. Thomas,
home of the bustling capital city of Charlotte Amalie; St. John, encircled
by vast, empty beaches; and St. Croix, the largest of the islands. About
50 smaller islands and cays make up the rest of the whole.
The islands? capital, Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas, is the Caribbean?s
most popular stop for cruise ships, so it is well developed. It is also the perfect
place to exercise your wallet—it calls itself "a place where no sport or
luxury is left unindulged." The city aside, the island?s western end is relatively
wild, and the northern end is home to many villas. The interior,
which is ideal for those looking for just plain exercise, offers dramatic emerald
mountains and well conditioned, navigable roads to get you there.
