The atmosphere on the Polaris embodies the spirit of Lindblad Expeditions—relaxed, informal, friendly, and adventurous. Manned by one expedition leader and five experienced guides, this 80-passenger vessel is used exclusively for exploring the remote Galapagos Islands.

The boat is equipped with a fleet of Zodiacs for easy access to the islands, wildlife, and the coastline's nooks and crannies. Snorkeling gear and a glass-bottom boat give guests an up-close look at the underwater scenery.

Each of the 41 cabins overlooks the sea; most have two single beds, a private bath, desk, mirrors, reading lights, window, and a direct-dial phone. The largest cabins can accommodate a third guest on a sofa-bed.

Public spaces are designed to foster camaraderie between passengers and staff. In the Observation Lounge, the group gathers for nightly "recaps"—a Polaris tradition. The library is stocked with a collection of destination-related books, while the deck provides a quiet spot to soak in the scenery. Meals are unhurried, unassigned, and unfancy; there is no need to dress up, even for dinner. In 1998, Lindblad Expeditions' menus were redesigned by restaurateur Andrew Young and Co., with an emphasis on fresh, regional dishes.
