Once thought of as a budget traveler's destination, the Dominican Republic (also known as the DR) is now offering a new, very appealing side for the more discriminating traveler. This up-and-coming beach vacation destination proved itself worthy enough to be the marriage proposal site for Hideaways Staff Writer, Andrew Thiel.
Travel to the Caribbean and enjoy all the activities at this sprawling resort (7,000 acres total) that offers its guests some of the best golf in the Caribbean, horseback riding, water sports, and shooting. Catch some sun at the beach, shop on the property's replica of a 16th-century Mediterranean village, and catch an evening show at the Grecian-style amphitheater. If relaxing with some fine wine and a good book on vacation is more important than keeping busy, stay at this second resort where romance is around every corner and the cuisine (at all three restaurants) is unforgettable.
