An Island Home to Call Your Own

When a young Toronto family we met on the beach described their waterfront villa on Tortola's north shore, we knew instantly which one it was—Jane Clarke's Hideaways-listed home and one of the first built on Cane Garden Bay. It was a perfect base for their island explorations, and the location, just steps from the water, couldn't have been better for a family with small children. Hillside homes like ours, on the other hand, have panoramic views and catch the cooling breezes but usually don't have easy access to the beach.

Of the BVI villas we inspected, the most impressive were the spectacular homes on Virgin Gorda's equally spectacular Mahoe Bay beach. Associated with Leverick Bay, a small resort and marina on the northern tip of the island, most of these spacious homes are less than eight years old. Those on the water have a buffer of low stone walls, landscaping, and pool patios; those further back offer more bird's-eye views of the sunsets over Tortola and Great Camanoe.
