Hideaways' Review |
Tucked away behind high walls, in a secluded part of Megalochori, Villa Io provides exclusive privacy and graciously spacious summer retreat. An ideal hideaway, this haven of peace built into the volcanic rock, once served as the village school to the local children.
Entering the private, cobbled courtyard through the heavy outer wooden double doors, one takes in the large glistening pool, surrounding vegetation and organic, minimalist hues of the house itself. Space around the pool is ample, providing the perfect outdoor environs for lazing around on hot summer days.
The layout of the house takes the form of old traditional Santorini houses which echo the shapes and colours of the region. The kitchen, pastoral in style, is large, functional and well equipped with an ample dining area.
Mediterranean chalk washes abound throughout interiors that are both rural and poetic, bare wood double doors open up into a single room and a staircase lead up to a delightful den, which can accommodate two people. Through an arched passageway of aristocratic, almost primitive simplicity, the living room, awash with antique furniture features doors leading out again to the courtyard and pool. Double doors lead from the lounge to a comfortable double bedroom of Zen simplicity. The open - space bathroom has a Jacuzzi and shower with a separate restroom.
This traditional Villa ensures tranquility, privacy and a taste of the delights of pastoral village life. Villa Io is ideal for families wanting to experience the true island life - style of days gone by without compromising on modern day comfort. |
