Hideaways' Review |
Your first clue that you're leaving the rude world behind and entering the sybaritic zone is that it takes an hour by car or a quick helicopter ride to get there. Your second is the presentation of a glass of chilled champagne and a wet towel to wipe your face upon arrival. Your third is a glimpse of the miles of empty beach stretching in either direction, and the realization that almost the only sound you can hear is the waves of the blue-green Caribbean.
There's something elemental about this new resort. Sivory is all about gratifying the senses. There are no rooms here, only suites ranging in size from large to larger, where such features as well-stocked wine refrigerators, plasma TVs, and double showers with multiple massage functions come standard. Thatched palapas and sunny chaises on the beach invite you to revel in the sun and sea breezes, or you can lounge poolside and sip cold drinks supplied by the attentive staff. Hydrotherapy, assorted massages, and facials in the spa are designed to work out the kinks and sink guests into a state of boneless bliss.
Then there's the "art cuisine" served in three restaurants, ranging from Mediterranean to French to Caribbean Asian fusion, bolstered by an expansive wine list that runs to hundreds of bottles. Not to mention three strategically placed bars and snack areas, plus a cigar lounge.
One thing Sivory does not offer is a lot of action. You can use the snorkeling equipment or the sailboat, or perfect your stroke on the putting green, or perhaps arrange a fishing trip or some sightseeing with the help of the concierge. But who needs such distractions? True, sybaritic relaxation is a full-time pursuit. |
