Hideaways' Review |
Like the unspoiled island on which it resides, Long Bay epitomizes the tropical informality and natural beauty of the old Caribbean, the Caribbean of castaways, Hemingways, and pirates. Things move at a slower pace here; it's just you, your loved ones, and the warm aquamarine waters and crystal-white sands of a mile-long beach. Laze in a hammock by your easy, breezy, rustic Beachfront Cabana. Reconnect with your soul mate in a romantic suite nestled into lush frangipani-scented hillside gardens. Or enjoy a barbecue of fresh island seafood with family or friends on the expansive terrace of a Family Villa or an Estate Home with its own private pool (all come with sunbathing terraces and outdoor grills).
Parents can watch, drink in hand, from the barefoot-casual, beachside 1748 restaurant deck as their kids bodysurf or boogie board in the waves. (Summertime is snorkel time here; the winter months bring lively waves.) While the resort meanders aimlessly over its 52 acres, the recreation areas—the private beach, a large free-form pool, and lighted tennis courts—are clustered closely enough to give kids a sense of independence and parents a sense of ease.
If cooking for your clan isn't in the cards, delightfully fresh meals are provided by 1748, Long Bay's informal grill housed in a former sugar mill, and the Italian-style Pasta House. After all, you'd expect the pirate in you to have the freedom to do as much—or as little—as you please. |
