Hideaways' Review |
There's only one pleasure that comes even close to owning one of the sleek mega-yachts that dot Monte Carlo's picturesque harbor—and that's watching them come and go from the vantage point of a sumptuous suite at Port Palace. From its quayside location, this contemporary boutique hotel turns its sun-splashed face to the pretty scene outside its windows: the ornate Casino just steps away, Grimaldi Palace in the distance, and those magnificent yachts plying the harbor waters. The first new five-star offering in Monte Carlo in more than 20 years, this light and breezy enclave has the good taste to eschew the glitz and excess of its surroundings and present itself with clean, uncluttered lines and a refreshing color palette created by Leila Menchari, Design Director at Hermès. Guest rooms and corner suites are lightly touched with shades of sea and sky and finished with marble baths, Rubelli fabrics, Poltrona Frau furniture, and large plasma-screen TVs. In fact, every understated bit of elegance throughout the hotel reflects Menchari's passion for only the finest.
A similar passion for freshness and quality is central to Mandarine, the sixth-floor restaurant that takes in sweeping views of the harbor from its elegant terrace, where the beautiful people of Monaco gather to see and be seen. A delicious dinner of locally inspired Mediterranean-Asian cuisine, perfectly matched with world-class wines from the hotel's 20,000-bottle cellar, is the perfect prelude to an evening on the town. After all, who can resist the twinkling lights of Monte Carlo? |
