Hideaways' Review |
Follow in the footsteps of those who've passed along Via di Pietra for the past two centuries, and you'll find yourself at the corner of one of the most elegant and hidden squares in all of Rome, where the family-run Albergo Cesari hotel is located. This little gem offers all the warmth and hominess you'd expect from such a lovingly maintained property, where just 47 classically decorated guest rooms are located on four floors of a 17th-century building. Stay in the Stendhal Room, named for the great French author who supposedly chose this room so he could watch the wife of a nobleman who lived in the building opposite, and with whom he had fallen in love. Or select the beautiful Madama Giacinta Room, which overlooks a little slice of life on the Piazza di Pietra. And all rooms are air-conditioned and have soundproof windows, so you'll enjoy a restful sleep after a full day of sightseeing.
Of course, you'll want to start your day with a complimentary buffet breakfast at the hotel's panoramic Cesari's Terrace, a rooftop garden setting with timeless views of the Eternal City. Step out the door, and within a few hundred meters you?re at the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon, as well as the Chamber of Deputies and the Piazza Venezia. Wander the city on foot, and within 15 minutes you'll be staring in awe at the magnificent Coliseum. But the real magic starts back at the hotel at twilight, as you relax with a cocktail at the Terrace Bar and become bewitched by the city glowing in the fading light of a famous Roman sunset. |
